Episode 85 has us reviewing two fairly new releases, Baz Luhrmann’s latest and eagerly anticipated film adaptation in “The Great Gatsby” as well as the Marvel Studios’ juggernaut, “Iron Man 3″.  Our Show and-Tell segment sheds some light on the pop culture goodies we have been recently enjoying: Nikki talks up the Glee finale, Greg lauds two films, GRACELAND (currently playing at TIFF’s Bell Lightbox) and KON-TIKI, as well as two amazing podcasts: NOSTALGIA CRITIC and A DAMN MOVIE PODCAST. Corey closes the show recounting the delights of the Kitchen Nightmares season 6 finale.  Join us soon for Ryan and Cindy’s return where we will be reviewing Star Trek: Into Darkness.

Episode 82: A Pain In The Oz

Oz1Welcome back to CriticalMassCast! After a mini hiatus we are back to sound off on a couple big movies coming out of March. The last time Corey, Nicole and Greg got together to podcast together was for a screening of the MGM 1939 original- The Wizard of Oz but this time they are back for a go at Disney’s fantasy adaptation “Oz: The Great And Powerful”- as you can tell from the title of the episode we MIGHT of had some issues with this foray into the Oz film mythology but you will never know till you take a listen!

Lastly, we top off the episode with a review of Park Chan-wook’s lush and lurid thriller, “Stoker”, which has been garnering a significant amount of critical buzz- it is currently in limited relea but should be breaking out nationwide soon. Be sure to stick around till the end for our “Show and Tell” segment and please continue to send us your e-mails at criticalmasscast@gmail.com and don’t forget to rate us on iTunes. Thanks for listening!!

CriticialMassCast Film Series Edition #5- “Weekend”

Well, we finally made it happen!!  CMC host Greg Ashman and old podcasting pal Mark Perez of The Devil and Miss Mindy got together to have a conversation on director Andrew Haigh’s “Weekend”, starring Tom Cullen and Chris New.  The UK romantic indie drama coursed its way through the festival circuit in 2011 to critical acclaim and landed a great Criterion release in August of this year.  Hope you enjoy the show and be sure to check out Dennis Lim’s fantastic piece, “The Space Between Two People” that helps to break down the craft of the film and its place both in contemporary and queer cinema.

As always, please feel free to leave messages here on the blog, at criticalmasscast@gmail.com or on Twitter @cmasscast

Episode 73: WALTZspotting

In what was originally supposed to be our big Summer Movie 2012 round-up Part Two, we found that after spending 50 mins+ focusing on our first film review that we had unwittingly found the heart and soul of our show :) .  The film that managed to provoke all the great discussion and critical interest was as you might have guessed from the title of this episode, director Sarah Polley’s sophomore film effort  “Take This Waltz” starring Michelle Williams, Seth Rogen, Luke Kirby, and Sarah Silverman.

Our reviews of Magic Mike and Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World is already in the can and will comprise our Episode 74.  Before we post that episode though we have a big CMC roundtable discussion coming up on The Christopher Nolan Batman Trilogy including a review of The Dark Knight Rises which officially opens today.
